The communication protocol of the controller is not publicly available, so it is not possible to access data directly from the controller.

However, you can transfer data to other software using the API functionality in our software.

Hello, this is Kitronyx.

It is common to encounter situations where a controller must be placed inside a vacuum chamber for pressure mapping measurements.

We conducted tests to confirm if a controller can be used under such conditions.

Tested Controller: Baikal II WIFI

Test Conditions:

  1. 0.1 Torr, 5-minute operation test – Normal operation
  2. 0.75 Torr, 30-minute operation test – Normal operation

The Baikal II WIFI model is equipped with an internal battery.

According to the battery manufacturer, the battery operates without issues at 87 Torr for up to 6 hours.

Although PressureScan (electronic pressure-sensitive film) sensors can be made thin due to their exposed sensing area,

the output may vary depending on the shape, material, and application location of the object pressing on the sensor,

even under the same pressure.

Therefore, periodic calibration is required to prevent characteristic changes caused by pressure and temperature fluctuations during use.

While it is difficult to provide an exact calibration interval due to variations in the usage environment,

we generally recommend performing calibration every 3 to 6 months.

If possible, shorter intervals or calibrating right before use is the most effective.

Curve fitting is commonly used to model data by finding an appropriate function that

improves prediction accuracy based on measured data.

Kitronyx’s ForceLAB2 includes a feature that allows users to set different types of curve fitting.

Please refer to the image below to see how the Force curve changes depending on the algorithm used with the same data.

For more details on algorithms and how to apply them, please refer to the ForceLAB2 manual.

The node positions in the CSV file generated during log and snapshot saving may vary depending on the rotation and inversion settings applied by the user at the time of saving.

This explanation provides a brief overview of how the data saved in 1D and 2D CSV files corresponds to sensor positions, based on the default state (i.e., without inversion or rotation applied).

  • Data format: Node numbers are assigned in the form of RnCn (n=0,1,2,...), and 2D data is stored in a matrix format, identical to ForceLAB2.
  • For matching 1D data: The node located in the top left corner of the real-time measurement window corresponds to the R0C0 position.
  • For matching 2D data: The node located in the top left corner of the real-time measurement window corresponds to the (1,1) position.
  • Log files require a conversion process to match data according to the rotation and inversion settings specified by the user.

Yes, the PressureScan can be used in a vacuum chamber.

Before use, please consider the following points:

  1. While the sensor itself is flexible and thin, the extension boards or interface boards connected to the sensor are made of rigid materials, which may affect the setup in the chamber.

  2. When used in a vacuum chamber, noise may occur due to the vacuum conditions or the equipment.
This noise could either represent actual forces acting on the sensor in a vacuum state or be electrical noise generated by the equipment.

This guide will help you choose the right sensor for your application:

  1. Select a sensor compatible with your controller.
Sensors compatible with the Tinn controller include MS9723, MS9724, and Insole sensors.
Other sensors are compatible with Baikal II series controllers.
Note: Tinn is a 16x10 channel entry-level controller. For higher resolution requirements, we recommend using Baikal II series controllers.

  2. Check the sensor size and measurement area.
A variety of sensor sizes are available. Most sensors can be resized through cutting.
Note: Sensors that cannot be resized: SFC5813R2, SFC2910V2, SFM5216R1.

  3. Verify the sensor's pressure range.

  4. Verify the sensor's operating temperature.

It is recommended to operate the sensor within the pressure range specified in the datasheet.

Depending on the extent of the pressure exceeding the range, the outcomes can vary:

  1. Slightly exceeding the pressure range
If the applied pressure slightly exceeds the specified range, measurement accuracy may degrade significantly.
This can result in reduced pressure resolution, where subtle differences in pressure distribution might no longer be distinguishable.

Example: Within the specified range, a pressure difference of 1 kgf/cm² can be detected. Beyond the range, the sensor may only detect differences of 2 kgf/cm² or more.

Additionally, minor physical impressions on the sensor surface could affect the output to a small extent.
Note: This does not constitute damage that would render the sensor unusable.

  2. Significantly exceeding the pressure range
When the applied pressure greatly exceeds the recommended range, the sensor may fail to measure pressure distribution accurately.
Moreover, the sensor could be physically damaged (e.g., tearing or deformation), potentially making it unusable.
In most cases, severe damage occurs when pressure is applied using a sharp or narrow object.

If the pressure exceeds the recommended range significantly, please contact us for further assistance.
