Purpose
The stacking process involves alternately layering anode and cathode sheets around a separator to assemble the battery cell.
For guaranteed performance and stability, each layer must be precisely stacked, necessitating a real-time flatness monitoring system.
To address this, Kitronyx measured the pressure distribution of the mandrel, which grips the edges of the separator to ensure accurate electrode placement.
During the stacking process, the mandrel holds and aligns the battery cell, ensuring uniform stacking. As a result, Kitronyx verified that real-time flatness monitoring is achievable through the mandrel.
Results
By applying pressure using film type FSR sensors on the mandrels located at each of the four corners,
we were able to monitor the pressure distribution in real-time across all four areas.
This demonstrated the effectiveness of implementing a pressure distribution measurement solution in the stacking process
to assess the condition of the mandrels and confirmed the convenience of the system as a real-time monitoring tool.
